Understanding Alarm Status vs. Alarm History: How to Log Your Alarm Messages Correctly

Question:

Understanding the Alarm Status List vs. the Alarm History List I've successfully set up my alarm trigger and connected it as intended. I can easily toggle the alarm status, and I can view my alarm message in the Alarm Status List while it is active. However, once I toggle the alarm trigger, my alarm message does not appear in the Alarm History List. I'm unsure how to make it show up in this history log. What key information am I missing? As I'm enhancing an existing program, I notice that previously configured alarms are displayed in the Status banner and are properly logged in the history. I've examined these existing alarms to identify any discrepancies, but the differences are not clear to me. If you have insights on resolving this issue or tips on how to make alarms appear in the history list, please share your expertise!

To access the Property page, simply right-click on the Alarm List. Ensure that the list is filtered to display only the specific alarms you’re interested in. If you wish to add new alarms or an alarm group, make sure to include them in the filter options. Additionally, the Alarm Clear Button features a filter that allows you to choose which alarms to clear. If no alarms are selected, the button will clear all alarms. This functionality is mirrored in the alarm list—if no alarms are selected, it will present all available alarms.

It sounds like you're on the right track with your setup! One key thing to check is whether the alarm is indeed being acknowledged or cleared before the system logs it in the history. Sometimes, an alarm might not register in the history if it's toggled off too quickly or if the system isn't set to log alarms that were simply deactivated. Additionally, make sure your logging configuration allows for all types of alarms to be recorded—some systems have separate settings for different alarm statuses. Double-check those settings and maybe try toggling the alarm off and back on again while keeping an eye on the logs to see if that triggers the history update. Hope that helps!

It sounds like you're on the right track with your alarm setup! One thing to double-check is whether your alarm is defined to log its history on state changes – some systems have an option that specifically captures events like alarms going active or inactive for the history log. You might also want to see if the duration for which the alarm is active affects its logging; perhaps there's a setting that only logs alarms that exceed a certain threshold. Lastly, reviewing the documentation or support resources for your specific system can provide clues, as different platforms can have unique requirements for history logging. Good luck, and I hope you get it sorted out!
